Field of the Invention This invention relates to use of zero valent iron and other metals to generate hydroxyl free radicals and undergo subsequent oxidation to destroy organic chemicals and disinfect bacteria.
The inventors have demonstrated the following novel industrial applications of the hydroxyl free radicals Waste water treatment of: Pesticides effluents Domestic waste water Petroleum effluent industries Food industries Hospitals wastewater Disinfections of: Water polluted by bacteria Swimming pool water Analytical methodologies for quality control of carbohydrates in fruits and juices Sucrose Glucose Fructose Ascorbic acid Quality control of formulated drugs
Removal of chemicals: • Phenol destruction in water

Destination of organic chemicals material after the reaction?
Removal of phenol measured as TOC decrease after ZVIP treatment a Phenol was dissolved in phosphate buffer (0.05 M, pH 4). b The reaction underwent 10 min. c The efficiency was corrected by subtracting the background value (29 mg/L TOC) from the TOC levels after reaction.
