Observations and Interviews • Think - What was particularly interesting, enlightening, confusing, perplexing, surprising, exciting, etc. about your observations of and interview with the reference librarian? • Pair - compare notes: highlight four items of interest to discuss • Share - share two items of interest from pair

Writing Reference Questions • Five groups of 3 • Part I • Using Reference Source provided, generate one “good” reference question using that source • What is a “good” reference question? • Write answer ON SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER!
Activity Continued… • Groups stay the same • Part II • Rotate questions and sources • Using reference source, try to answer the reference question written using that source • Note problems and challenges with the questions as written; make suggestions for improving the questions • Write your answers and notes on separate sheet of paper • Rotate questions and sources; repeat for next question (total five times) • Part III • Discuss
Search and Discuss Questions • Choose Topic • Develop 3 reference questions for EACH SOURCE GROUPING (1-6) • (18 total) • Each question should use a DIFFERENT source • All questions and source lists are to be posted to course Wiki by next class • Email me the questions and answers • http://zeno.ced.appstate.edu/wikis/MediaPedia/index.php/Main_Page
TIP: Once groups have developed their 18 questions, students should try Googling each of the questions to ensure that the questions aren’t so easy that Googling would be the best way to answer them.
Resource Presentations • Resource Presentations/Lessons • What do we need to know about the reference type selected? • Which are the best of this type? How does one select the best? • How do you use this reference source? (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced use) • Present in class - approx. 20 minutes • Presentation should be interactive/hands-on • Bring examples (if possible) • Outlines of Presentations due CLASS THREE • Groups 1 and 2 will PRESENT at Class Three!
Homework • Text - Continue Ch. 1-3 (Cassell) and your source chapter(s) • Blogs - Reflections • Discussion Boards - discussion of text and issues • Assignments • Work on Resource Presentations - Due next class • Work on SD Questions - Due next class • Continue working on CPCP project
