This project aims to improve European universities' capacity to assist refugees and threatened academics, while promoting academic freedom and higher education values. It includes training, a Massive Open Online Course, and intensive study programs.

  3. Objectives To improve the capacity of European Universities to assist refugees and threatened academics; To promote greater respect for academic freedom and greater protection for higher education values. www.unica-network.eu

Target Groups Primary – refugees and threatened academics Secondary – academic and administrative staff at universities around the world, especially the ones welcoming refugees and developing international Higher Education partnerships where academic freedom is under threat Additional – student organisations, graduate students, national governments, media and civil society

Staff training in Oslo, Norway Full staff training week, 19-23 June 2017 • Target groups: • Academic and Administrative staff involved in welcoming refugees and threatened academics on campus • International Relations Officers • A limited number of participants from SAR and UNICA Networks Intensive Module for Teaching Staff, 19-21 June 2017 • Target groups: • Academic staff with an interest in academic freedom, university values and human rights of scholars • A limited number of participants from SAR and UNICA Networks

  10. UNICA Members & Refugees “Welcome Student-refugee Programme” at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel established in 2016. Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin offer preparatory courses for refugees who would like to continue their university education or take up regular studies in the future. Academic Dugnad by University of Oslo King’s College London is offering sanctuary scholarships to talented refugees to be able to study for an undergraduate degree at King’s. And many more…
