OBJECTIVES OF EXPORT PROMOTION • Increased Export Sales • Targeted and focused Export Promotion • Country Branding and Imaging to increase Market Awareness of South African Exports
MATCHING BUYERS • The primary aims of match making are to: • link SA export ready companies with foreign buyers or potential importers. • enable all SA exporters to broaden their foreign markets.
PROJECT TO PROMOTE SUB-CONTRACTING AND EXPORTSOF SA ENGINEERING PRODUCTS TO EUROPE • Inform Export Councils and Industry Associations, UNIDO (meetings and seminars) • Identify local suppliers • Organised group stand at Midest subcontracting exhibition in Paris (Nov 2010 & 2011). Seminars on sub–contracting in SA held during the exhibition in both years. • Organised Inward Buying Mission of French & Turkish firms to SA in March 2012 (From firms identified at Midest 2011) • Organise National Pavilion at Midest 2012 • Organise IBM in March 2013. • Organise National Pavilion at Midest 2013 (SA Special Partner country/seminars on SA capabilities at event.
INWARD BUYING MISSION IN MARCH 2012 • Worked with Foreign Office in Paris, UNIDO, Electrotechnical Export Council and the dti IDD Sector Desk for Metals. • Funded under the EMIA Scheme. • Costs covered for buyers (air ticket, accommodation & ground transport). • Five buyers attended (2 x French and 3 x Turkish buyers). • Programmes arranged by UNIDO and SAEEC. • More than 50 appointments over 5 days. Each buyer accompanied to all appointments.
INWARD BUYING MISSION IN MARCH 2012 • Objective of the Mission: Show foreign buyers S A firms capabilities in subcontracting. Factory visits. • Results: Visiting buyers expressed satisfaction with 90% of meetings attended. The foreign firms are preparing NDAs and RFQs. Have also requested names of other potential subcontractors for other types of components etc. • Dti will be organising further IBM in March 2013, following National Pavilion at Midest 2012.
