GE OGRAPHY Norway has a very mountainous geography In Norway mountain ranges divide Norway Into pieces. There are also a lot of glaciers dividing. Norway has a lot of islands off the coast. The coastline is actually 1,647 feet around because of the fjords which look like little peninsulas coming off the coast. The valleys actually serve as railroad routes. CLIMATE Norway has a varied polar climate because of all the mountains. The average temperature in the west is 45˚F, and the north it’s 77˚F. Ice and snow covers 1,200 square miles of Norway. COMMON FOODS Norway has a lot of unique seafood. Norwegians eat four meals a day unlike Americans who have three meals a day. More traditional foods are Western European dishes like pasta and pizza. One other dish is called fårikål which is a mutton and cabbage stew. Another dish is called Gomme which is a sweet milk dish served with waffles. SPORTS & HOBBIES Norway has a lot of winter sports. One of the sports is Cross country skiing and Norway invented this sport. Norwegians also enjoy a sport called Bandy which is a fast sport a lot like ice hockey. Norwegians play it on a large field and they use curved sticks to a ball. Soccer is also a very popular summer sport and they call it football. A lot of Norwegians ice skate because there is water all around them. FAMOUS PEOPLE Norway has a lot of very famous people. One famous person is Edvard Munch and he is an artist that drew the Scream. Fridtjof Nansen was a great explorer and also an author that got a Nobel Peace Prize in 1922. Olaf 2 Haraldson was the first king and when he died people say miracles happened.
