    2. Why would a company want our services? We provide free and confidential workplace safety consultation to Florida’s Small Businesses.

    3. Florida’s small businesses are suffering from high costs for workers’ compensation because of high rates of workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. Why is there a need for our services?

    4. Florida Workplace Fatalities In 2005, workplace accidents killed 404 workers in Florida. Every 14 calendar days, 16 workers die in Florida.

    5. Florida Workplace Fatalities 246,300 workplace injuries and illness were reported in Florida in 2005. Each week 4,736 employees are injured or become ill in the Florida workplace.

    7. The Benefits of Using Our Services The mission of USF SafetyFlorida is to provide free, confidential consultation that helps Florida’s small businesses be in compliance with OSHA standards and save money by eliminating workplace hazards that cause injury, illness, or death.

    16. Would you like to be exempt from OSHA inspections? OSHA encourages employers to operate exemplary safety and health management programs. To reward such employers, OSHA allows those who meet a few basic eligibility requirements to become exempt from OSHA inspections for one year and then receive annual renewals for up to two additional years.

    19. To Qualify for SHARP: Request a full-service comprehensive visit from USF SafetyFlorida and correct all hazards (serious and other-than-serious) identified by the consultant.

    21. To Qualify for SHARP: Request a full-service comprehensive visit from USF SafetyFlorida and correct all hazards (serious and other-than-serious) identified by the consultant. Implement and maintain a safety and health management program. Score at least two on all 58 basic attributes of the Safety and Health Program Assessment Worksheet (OSHA Form 33).

    22. To Qualify for SHARP: Request a full-service comprehensive visit from USF SafetyFlorida and correct all hazards (serious and other-than-serious) identified by the consultant. Implement and maintain a safety and health management program. Score at least two on all 58 basic attributes of the Safety and Health Program Assessment Worksheet (OSHA Form 33). Agree to notify USF SafetyFlorida prior to making any changes in working conditions or work processes that might introduce new hazards into the workplace.

    23. If you have satisfied all SHARP participation criteria: USF SafetyFlorida may recommend your site for final approval. If OSHA approves the SHARP request, the initial exemption will extend for one year from the date shown on the certificate of recognition that you will receive from OSHA. The renewal exemption period may be up to two additional years, based on OSHA approval. You must apply for renewal during the last quarter of the initial exemption period. Of course, a fatality or formal complaint will trigger an inspection of your site by USF SafetyFlorida at any time during the initial or renewal periods.

    26. USF Web Recordkeeping When an Employee is Injured… OSHA requires you to record an injury or illness on your OSHA form 300 within seven (7) calendar days of receiving information that a recordable injury or illness has occurred.

The employer can demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement of the effectiveness of their company’s workplace safety and health management system. Qualifications are: Request and receive a full-service on-site visit by the USF SafetyFlorida Consultation Program. The company has no willful or repeat citations from OSHA on the job site within the past 24 months. Have established and maintained an effective injury and illness prevention program. Recommended by the USF Consultant performing the survey.
