New TestsWeek Beginning Monday 9th May • English Reading • English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG) (2 papers) • Maths (3 papers)
Life Without Levels • KS2 test outcomes will no longer be reported using levels. • Scaled scores will be used instead. • Scaled score will be based on their ‘raw’ score. • 100 will always be the ‘national standard’.
Reading Paper • One paper 60 minutes to complete • No reading time • 3 Texts (1500-2300 words in total) • They will get more difficult as children move through the test • Can be non fiction, fiction or poetry
SPaG • Two papers • Spelling paper – read by us • Punctuation and grammar paper – 45 minutes to answer (50 marks)
SPaG • Spelling • Spelling rules from Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 • We will be covering all of these in the weeks running up to the SATs test
SPaG • Punctuation and Grammar • Word classes • Types of sentences • Phrases and clauses • Verb forms, tense and consistency • Punctuation • Vocabulary • Standard English and formality
Maths Papers • Three papers: • Paper 1: Arithmetic • Paper 2 & 3: Mathematical Reasoning
Paper 1: Arithmetic • “Assesses pupils’ confidence with the range of mathematical operations.” • 40 marks (roughly 36 questions) • 30 minutes
Paper 1: Arithmetic • + - x ÷ • Fractions: + - x ÷ • Percentages of amounts • Equivalent percentages/fractions • BODMAS
Papers 2 & 3: Reasoning • “Mathematical fluency, solving mathematical problems and mathematical reasoning.” • 70 marks (35 marks per paper) • 40 minutes per paper.
Papers 2 & 3: Reasoning • Number and Place Value • Calculations • Fractions, Decimals and Percentages • Ratio and Proportion • Algebra • Measurement • Geometry – properties of shape – position and direction • Statistics
Important Information • Mock Week: week beginning 18th April. • Illness: if your child is ill and unable to come into school then please contact school as soon as possible. • Access Arrangements: • Children who have specific difficulties should be allowed extra time to complete the tests; • Some children, who we feel will benefit, will be placed in smaller rooms to complete the tests.
Breakfast - please ensure your child has a good breakfast! • Snacks – please supply with healthy snacks before/after tests. • Science: may be tested! If we are, will be week 13th June.
