Project Description • Client: IBM Global Services • Task: Localization of Web-based Training courses from English into German • Scope: Individual courses as an on-going project • Editing time: 8 weeks per course • Staff involved: 1 Project Manager, 2 Translators, 1 Client SME, 1 Graphics Artists, 1 Localization Engineer, 1 Tester

  3. Project Challenges • Provide turn-key solution for entire WBT course • Develop markup table to use translation memory • Set up process to involve client Subject-Matter Expert in approval process • Handle complex file structure and manage status of each file • Provide detailed project schedule listing all responsibilities and coordinate resources • Meet highest client requirements in terms of content and presentation quality

  4. Workout Detailed Project Plan • Analyze project and determine exact project requirements • Workout detailed project plan

  5. Revise Project Plan • Submit project plan to involved client representatives • Adapt project plan and get approval from client

  6. Extract Translatable Text • Extract translatable text for translation in Translation Memory

  7. Determine Graphics to be Localized • Determine which graphics need to be localized

  8. Extract Text for Audio Localization • Build table including relevant information for translation of audio text for voice-over

  9. Import Documents to be Localized in TranslationManager

  10. Analyze Files and Create List of New Terms for Approval

  11. Edit List of New Terms

  12. Submit New Terminology to Client SME for Approval

  13. Perform Translation and QA for Text • Translate extracted text files using Translation Memory • Peform QA • Document errors • Enter corrections • Review corrections

  14. Perform Translation and QA for Graphics • Translate graphics using Adobe Photoshop • Proofread translation and check consistency with terminology DB • Make corrections • Check colors and graphics resolution

  15. Prepare Audio Script for Voice Talent and Send to Studio

  16. Convert Localized Audio Files and Integrate in Course

  17. Localize Graphics Files

  18. Integrate Translated Text and Publish Course

  19. Submit 1st Version of Localized Course to Client SME

  20. Perform Functionality and Design Testing

  21. Adapt Course Design and Fix Bugs

  22. Solutions Summary • Provided all skills and resources needed to deliver localized course • Developed filter (markup table) for translation tool • Involved client SME in various steps of approval process • Successfully handled complex file structure and managed file status until completion • Made sure that all tasks were performed as detailed in project schedule on time and on budget • 100% met client requirements in terms of content and course layout.
