Goal of Family & Consumer Science • The course is designed to teach students primarily through applied activities which are designed to: • *Prepare students to meet their responsibilities. *Understand their opportunities as family members, consumers, home managers, wage earners, & parents. All Seventh graders participate in FACS 7 every day for ½ a year totaling 20 weeks. Eighth graders participate in Food and Nutrition every other day for ½ a year totaling 10 weeks.

  3. Class Requirements *A pen/ pencil for class everyday *A folder/notebook neat & in order *Prepared to begin at the start of the class period. *Respect for self, others, and everyone's property.

Grading Policy • **Class work / Homework • **Quizzes , Tests & Labs • **Projects must be completed & handed in on time to be graded • ** All work is given a point value • ** Grades are determined by dividing the actual number of points earned by the total points possible. Example- points possible for the marking period 300. Student earned 250 points 250 divided by 300 = .83 • **Points will be subtracted for late work. 5 days late no points will be given. • ** Extra Credit available – see website

  7. 7th Grade Curriculum • CAREERS- The purpose of this module is to assist students in understanding the process of career planning and to encourage students to begin planning in a logical way. Students recognize that early decisions are not binding, but do provide us with direction.

  12. 7th Grade Curriculum • NUTRITION MANAGEMENT- • The process skills are applied to the area of nutrition and food selection. Students will prepare simple, nutritious recipes in lab. The students will practice proper measuring techniques in preparing the recipes.

  14. Food and Nutrition Elective • The purpose of this course is to build on the skills learned in FACS 7, and develop an understanding of how nutrition can be applied to real life situations.

  15. Nutrition Topics • Safety/ Sanitation in the Foods Lab • Use of Appliances • Lab Procedures • Measuring review • Nutrient groups • Dining Out/ Etiquette • Relationship of Diet/Health/Exercise • Labs – Each unit will be accompanied by a kitchen lab experience
