  3. Jyotirlinga Shree Mahakaleshwar Mahakaleshwar is known to be dakshinamukhi, facing the South. This is a unique feature, upheld by tantric tradition to be found only in Mahakaleshwar among the 12 jyotirlingas

Jyotirlinga Shree Mahakaleshwar • At present the Hight of Temple is 111 feet with 108 pillars • Reconstruct in 11 A.D. • Altutmish pulled this temple down in 1235 A.D. • Reconstruction of the present temple structure was done at the instance of Ramchandra Baba Shenvi, a subedar of Malwa under Ranoji Scindia. • Ujjain used to be centre point of the calculation of the Indian time (in the past the ujjain is the Greenwich of India) and Mahakala was considered as the distinctive presiding deity of Ujjain • The lingam at the Mahakal is believed to be swayambhu (born of itself), deriving currents of power (Shakti) from within itself as against the other images and lingams which are ritually established and invested with mantra-shakti. • The temple is three storied 1- Shree Mahakaleshwar 2- Shree Omkareshwar 3- Nagchandreshwar on the third storey is open for darshan only on the day of Nagpanchami

In the Temple 25000 to 30000 devotees attract on every Monday & in the Mahashivratri, Nagpanchami & Shravan the no of devotees is more then 1 lacks 700 meters railing in the temple premises & 500 meters railing is outside of the temple with necessary facilities like water, urinals etc. Inside the temple there are no ladders. Ramp is made for senior citizen, handicapped & children. Crowd Control

  15. Near temple two dharmashalas (Mahakal Dharmashala & Pt. Surnayaran Vyas Dharmashala) are available which are under control of the temple administration. In Mahakal Dharmashala 12 Ac & 13 non Ac room, 12 dormitory are available at reasonable rates. Temple administration conduct an Annakshetra where devotee can take meal free of charge. At the time of huge crowed special darshan facility is available on Rs. 101 Temple administration provide the facility of Tilak & Prasad (free of charge) for every devotee.
