CACFP Child Care Wellness Grant ODE Child and Adult Care Program
BACKGROUND The Agriculture, Rural Development Food & Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-80): • $8 million • Competitive Grant • Promote health and nutrition of children in child care settings.
BACKGROUND • 14 States • ½ funds awarded • CACFP child care sponsoring organizations • Grant period 2-3 years • Fund nutrition & physical activities in child care and after school settings
BACKGROUND • Oregon received $500,000. • $250,000 will go to CACFP Center Sponsors and FDCH Sponsors
5 KEY STRATEGIES • Increase the amount and variety of fruits and vegetable consumption for children in child care. • Increase access to and consumption of healthy beverage options for children in care. • Improve accommodations for breastfeeding if the center or home cares for children under age 1.
