The Hamburger Model. Presented by: Paula Waltman. Objectives. Students will write reports containing the three parts of the hamburger model. Students will use this model to write a report about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Students will use the internet, Microsoft word, and PowerPoint.

  2. Objectives • Students will write reports containing the three parts of the hamburger model. • Students will use this model to write a report about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. • Students will use the internet, Microsoft word, and PowerPoint.

  4. TOP BUN = INTRODUCTION The introduction includes the main ideas covered in your paper. • Use complete sentences • Leave out- - I, my, me, you • Leave out- - I am writing about… • Leave out - - This paper is about… • Leave out - - My report is on…

  5. PATTIES = FOCUS POINTS Main body of your paper • Use key words • Use key phrases Patty #1 = first focus point Patty #2 = second focus point Patty #3 = third focus point • Make sure focus points are not to similar to each other.

  6. PATTIES = EXTRASSupporting ideas Build a SUPER BURGER • Add mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, etc. • Each patty does not require the same number of extras. • Remember to use key words to make your own sentences.

  7. BOTTOM BUN= CONCLUSION A conclusion of the main points of the paper. • Leave out the following types of phrases: My paper has been about… In this paper, I hope… I hope you have enjoyed this paper. The End.

  8. TOP BUN=INTRODUCTION In 1848 the discovery of gold in California initiated the migration of people to the west coast.

  9. PATTY ONE • James Marshall and crew • Sutter’s Mill • Noticed glimmer in mud • Pounded material • Substance flattened and didn’t crumble

  10. PATTY TWO • Claimed it was gold • Wasn’t believed • Boiled it and didn’t melt • Searched again • Found more gold

  11. PATTY THREE • Word spread • People moved to California • Population boom

  12. BOTTOM BUN = CONCLUSION James Marshall’s discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill brought thousands of people to California. Although most people did not become rich, the Gold Rush started the settlement of the west coast.

INSTRUCTIONS • Using the given resources, research the Lewis and Clark Expedition. • Write main ideas on note cards. • Create a Power Point slide for the top bun, each patty, and the bottom bun. • Write a research paper using the Hamburger Model in Microsoft Word. • Remember to site your resources.
