  4. Cell • Basic unit of structure and function of all living things Cell Theory • All living things are made up of cells • Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living things • All cells come from pre-existing cells

  5. Tissue • tissue is made up of a group of cells with similar structures, working together to perform a shared function • Different tissues contain specialized cells to perform specific functions of that tissue

  6. Ciliated Cells • Commonly found in the respiratory tract • Contain cilia, microscopic hair like projections on the surface of the cell that sweep fluids or particles away • Function: movement

  8. Root Hair Cell • cells found near to the tip of the roots of plants. • Most water enters the root through them. • The thin hair-like extension of each cell gives a large surface for water to enter across. • Function: absorption

  10. Xylem Vessel • xylem is a type of vascular tissue found in plants • two major functions: • the conducting of water and mineral salt from root to leaves, • to provide mechanical strength (support) to the plant body. • Function: conduction & support

  14. Red Blood Cells • Travel through your blood vessels delivering oxygen and removing wastes • Appear red because they contain hemoglobin that binds oxygen for transport function: transport

  17. Organ Systems • An organ system is a group of organs with related functions, working together to perform body functions
