And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: 'Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.'" 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD, 3 and said, "Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

HE WAS COVERED WITH BOILS READ: ISAIAH 38:21 21 Now Isaiah had said, "Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover."

READ: 2 KINGS 8:7-12 7 Then Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, "The man of God has come here.“ 8 And the king said to Hazael, "Take a present in your hand, and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, 'Shall I recover from this disease?'“ 9 So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, of every good thing of Damascus, forty camel-loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, "Your son Ben-Hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, 'Shall I recover from this disease?'" 10 And Elisha said to him, "Go, say to him, 'You shall certainly recover.' However the LORD has shown me that he will really die.“ 11 Then he set his countenance in a stare until he was ashamed; and the man of God wept. 12 And Hazael said, "Why is my lord weeping?“ He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you will dash their children, and rip open their women with child." NKJV

READ: 2 KINGS 18:13-15 13 And in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them. 14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay." And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 15 So Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house. HE DID WHAT WAS RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD READ: 2 KINGS 18:1-3 1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. 3 And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father David had done.

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:1-3 WHAT DID THE LORD SAY TO SOLOMON? ‘WALK BEFORE ME AS YOUR FATHER DAVID WALKED’ READ: 1 KINGS 9:4-5 4 Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, 5 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.‘ NKJV ‘THEY HAVE NOT WALKED IN MY WAYS’ READ: 1 KINGS 11:33 33 Because they have forsaken Me, and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the people of Ammon, and have not walked in My ways to do what is right in My eyes and keep My statutes and My judgments, as did his father David. HOW DOES ONE WALK WITH THE LORD? ‘LET YOUR HEART BE LOYAL TO THE LORD’ ‘WALK IN HIS STATUTES’ READ: 1 KINGS 8:61 61 Let your heart therefore be loyal to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments, as at this day." WHAT DID DAVID ASK THE LORD? ‘GIVE MY SON SOLOMON A LOYAL HEART’ READ: 1 CHRONICLES 29:19 19 And give my son Solomon a loyal heart to keep Your commandments and Your testimonies and Your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I have made provision.“ NKJV

HOW DID DAVID WALK BEFORE THE LORD? ‘I HAVE WALKED IN MY INTEGRITY’ ‘I HAVE WALKED IN YOUR TRUTH’ READ: PSALMS 26:1-3 1 Vindicate me, O LORD, For I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted in the LORD; I shall not slip. 2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. 3 For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth. NKJV

And Hezekiah wept bitterly. DID HEZEKIAH WALK WITH THE LORD? HOW DID DANIEL MAINTAIN HIS INTEGRITY? ‘HE PRAYED TO THE LORD DAILY’ READ: DANIEL 6:10 10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.

READ: ISAIAH 38:4-6 4 And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, 5 "Go and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city."‘

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:4-6 READ: 2 KINGS 20:4-5 4 And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 5 "Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. WHEN DID GOD RESPOND TO HEZEKIAH’S PRAYER? WHAT DID THE LORD SAY TO HEZEKIAH? ‘SURELY I WILL HEAL YOU’ HOW SOON DOES THE LORD RESPOND TO PRAYER? ‘BEFORE YOU CALL, I WILL ANSWER’ READ: ISAIAH 65:24 24 "It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear. NKJV

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:4-6 HOW SOON DID THE LORD RESPOND TO DANIEL’S PRAYER? ‘WHILE I WAS SPEAKING IN PRAYER’ READ: DANIEL 9:20-21 20 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God, 21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. WHY DID THE LORD RESPOND SO QUICKLY? ‘YOU ARE GREATLY BELOVED’ READ: DANIEL 9:22-23 22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, "O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. 23 At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: NKJV

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:4-6 5 "Go and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city."‘ WHY WILL THE LORD DEFEND JERUSALEM? ‘FOR MY OWN SAKE & MY SERVANT DAVID’S SAKE’ READ: 2 KINGS 20:6 6 And I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David."'" NKJV READ: ISAIAH 37:35 35 'For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake and for My servant David's sake.'" NKJV

READ: ISAIAH 38:7-8 7 And this is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing which He has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward." So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down.

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:7-8 7 And this is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing which He has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward." So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down. WHY DID THE LORD GIVE HEZEKIAH A SIGN? READ: 2 KINGS 20:8-11 8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What is the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?" 9 Then Isaiah said, "This is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?" 10 And Hezekiah answered, "It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees." 11 So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz. NKJV

  25. WHAT DID JOSHUA DO? 8 Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward." So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down. WHAT SIGN DID THE LORD GIVE HEZEKIAH? WHAT WAS THE EFFECT OF MOVING IT BACKWARD? WHAT SIGN DID JOSHUA GIVE THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL? ‘THE SUN STOOD STILL & THE MOON STOPPED’ READ: JOSHUA 10:12-14 12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: "Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon." 13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the LORD heeded the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.

READ: ISAIAH 38:9-11 9 This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: 10 I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.“ 11 I said, "I shall not see YAH, The LORD in the land of the living; I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world.

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 9 This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: 10 I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.“ 11 I said, "I shall not see YAH, The LORD in the land of the living; I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world. WHEN DID HEZEKIAH WRITE THESE WORDS? AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM HIS SICKNESS WHAT WAS HEZEKIAH’S CONCERN ABOUT DYING? ‘DYING IN THE PRIME OF LIFE’ ‘NOT SEEING YAH IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING?’

  28. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 10 I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.“ WHAT WAS HEZEKIAH’S CONCERN ABOUT DYING? DYING IN THE PRIME OF LIFE? WHAT DID DAVID SAY ABOUT DEATH? MAN’S LIFE IS BUT A VAPOR READ: PSALMS 39:5 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. NKJV DO NOT TAKE ME IN THE MIDST OF MY DAYS READ: PSALMS 102:24 24 I said, "O my God, Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are throughout all generations. NKJV

  29. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 10 I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.“ WHAT WAS HEZEKIAH’S CONCERN ABOUT DYING? DYING IN THE PRIME OF LIFE? WHAT DID DAVID SAY ABOUT DEATH? ‘I WILL SEE YOUR FACE IN RIGHTEOUSNESS’ AND ‘I SHALL AWAKE IN YOUR LIKENESS’ READ: PSALMS 17:15 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. NKJV

  30. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 11 I said, "I shall not see YAH, The LORD in the land of the living; I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world. WHAT WAS HEZEKIAH’S CONCERN ABOUT DYING? ‘I WILL NOT SEE YAH IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING’ WHAT DID DAVID SAY ABOUT THE LAND OF THE LIVING? I WOULD SEE THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD READ: PSALMS 27:13 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. NKJV I WILL WALK BEFORE THE LORD READ: PSALMS 116:8-9 8 For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling. 9 I will walk before the LORDIn the land of the living. NKJV

  31. QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 11 I said, "I shall not see YAH, The LORD in the land of the living; I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world. WHAT WAS DAVID’S MESSAGE TO THE LIVING? READ: PSALMS 34:11-14 11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. 14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. NKJV

QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 38:9-11 10 I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.“ WHAT WAS HEZEKIAH’S CONCERN ABOUT DYING? ‘DYING IN THE PRIME OF LIFE’ WHAT DID PAUL WRITE CONCERNING DEATH? WE SHOULD TRUST IN GOD WHO RAISES THE DEAD READ: 2 CORINTHIANS 1:9-11 9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, NKJV

He cuts me off from the loom; From day until night You make an end of me. 13 I have considered until morning — Like a lion, So He breaks all my bones; From day until night You make an end of me. 14 Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered; I mourned like a dove; My eyes fail from looking upward. O LORD, I am oppressed; Undertake for me!
