HOW TO MULTIPLY BY FIVE (5) • Rule: When you multiply by five, there will either be a 0 or a 5 in the ones place. Example: 2 x 5 = 10; 3 x 5 = 15;4 x 5 = 20;5 x 5 = 25 • Groups: There are 5 groups. Example: 5 x 5 = 25; There are 5 groups of 5
HOW TO MULTIPLY BY FIVE (5) • Addition: Add the number 5 times. Example a: 5 x 3 = 15 3+3+3+3+3=15 (add 3 five times) 5+5+5=15 (add 5 three times) Example b: 5 x 4 = 20 4+4+4+4+4=20 (add 4 five times) 5+5+5+5=20 (add 5 four times)
HOW TO MULTIPLY BY FIVE (5) • Number patterns: Count by fives. Example: 5 x 9 = 45 or 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 6 x 5 = 30 or 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 5 x 12 = 60 or 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 • Arrays: 5 rows of 3 is 15 3 rows of 5 is 15 5 x 3 = 15 3 x 5 = 15
HOW TO MULTIPLY BY FIVE (5)word Problem • A cupcake factory produced 4 packages of cupcakes. There were 5 cupcakes in each package. How many cupcakes did the factory produce in all? Use pictures, numbers and words to solve the problem. 20 5 5 5 5 5 cupcakes x 4 packages = 20 cupcakes 5, 10, 15, 20 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 The factory produced 20 cupcakes in all. I solved this problem by adding 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 cupcakes or 5 cupcakes x 4 packages = 20 cupcakes in all.

Each one of them baked five cookies, how many cookies did they have altogether? 20 5 5 5 5 cookies x 3 students = 15 cookies 5, 10, 15, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 The kids baked 15 cookies altogether. I solved this problem by adding 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 cookies or 5 cookies x 3 students = 15 cookies in all.
