  4. Screen Package Philosophy • Must Complete • Get 4+ yards per attempt • Stress Fundamentals/Timing Daily at Practice • Perimeter Blocking • Daily Screen Drill- At least 10-20 min per day • Make the Defense Cover Down on all WR • Use to protect the Box in the Run Game

How Screens Stress the Defense • Make DL Run Laterally and Chase the Ball • Make the defense respect all Eligible WR • Create Mismatches in Space on the Perimeter • Limit the Box Numbers and Fronts we will see • Limit Pressure Fronts • Will make DL play Slow • Suckers and Gadgets will Take Advantage of Teams overplaying the Screens and result in Big Plays

  7. How We Attack Depth & Leverage • Depth - Must Align within 6 yards of our WR • Leverage- Must align head up to inside shoulder (No-Split the difference) • Numbers- If we have 3 and they have 2 we have numbers • “Protect the Box” – Make them play us honest

FAST SCREENS ATTACHED TO RUN CONCEPTS • We will attach out base screens to most of our run plays to give us a 2 in 1 play concept on most of our calls • Allows us to control the box numbers and force the defense to defend the entire field every snap • Will change depending on gameplan • QB always has the option to throw the screen • Screen WR should expect ball on every play

  35. Importance of Protecting the Box with Screens • We will dictate that the defense “cover-down” over all of our receivers. We will not allow the defense to bring extra defenders into the box the we can not account for in our blocking schemes. • We have automatic Key Screens Built into our base run concepts where if we have numbers or leverage the quarterback has the option to throw the screen.

Simple Execution- Easy Read for QB • We can attach screens and quicks to most all of our running plays • Easy Pre-Snap Read By Quarterback • Not an audible- The Screen is built into the call the QB has the option to throw the ball to the screen receiver if he feels that we have numbers or leverage • QB can make a “ball” call to RB pre-snap to alert him he is throwing the screen • WR should expect the ball to be thrown on the screen every snap
