General Profile: • Young country: 35 % out of 70 million is under 20. • Women & Men population is in half shares. • 27 % of women in labour force; (Sectors:42,1% agriculture, 15,7% industry and 42,2 % service ) • Out 0f 100 women, 12,4 % is self –employed,53,2 % paid employment ,44,4% unpaid family worker. • 1.300.000 men entrepreneur, 80.000 women entrepreneur (registered) • More womenthan men are illiterate mostly from rural areas. • 15-24 ages illiteracy rate among women 5,9% and 1,6 % for men.(2008)

Why low participation and employment rate of women? • Low educational level, • the annual increase ofthe working-age population (increase in labour market & not new jobs) • Economic crisis, • Increased migration to urban areas • ABOUT MERSİN : * seaport with 2 million population. * attractive for inner migrants from neighborhood cities for better economic and social conditions. • new initiatives for employment and entrepreneurship in collaboration with Institutios.

Education dimension: *Themoreworkingwomenthemoreentrepreneurwomen… *Themoretheyareeducatedthemoretheyareinvolved in thelabourforce. *Ministry of NationalEducationProvincialEducationDirectorates PublicEducationCentres /VocationalEducationCentresSocial / Vocational /TechnicalCourses & LiteracyCoursesCollaborativeinitiatives • Ministry of National Education;mainprovider of non-formal education and training activities. • MoNE manages activities both within its structure, and in co-operation with/supporting toother institutions and organizations. Of these activities, some are public and some specificallytargets women.

GENERAL DIRECTORATE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN (KSGM) *NationalAction Plan-GenderEquality: Objective 1: *All parties will accelerate efforts to increase women’s employment in line with theNinth Development Plan. 1.Increasing women’s employability through education,vocational training, entrepreneurship, adult education and labour force programmes in line with the demandof the labour force market; Responsible Institutions : ÇSGB, İŞ-KUR,MEB, KOSGEB Collaborating Inst: TOBB Board of Women Entrepreneurs,Universities,Local Authorities, NGOs, Trade Associations *2.Encouraging and supporting the entrepreneurshipof women through training, financing, and consultancy Services. Responsible Institutions : MEB, KOSGEB, İŞ-KUR, Presidency of GAP Administration

  8. PROVINCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMMES: • Governorship of Mersin Community Centres &Monitoring activities • Education Directorate organises non-formal Courses. PROJECTS ; Eu Projects ,National Projects ,Regional Development Agency Projects -”Wiser” ,“Course for nursing elderly ,patient,child and disabled”… • Turkish Employment Agency(İŞKUR) cooperatively organises vocational training activities ,entrepreneurshipcourses for target groups who are unemployed young people, women etc. • Small and Medium Industry Development Organisation (KOSGEB) gives support services for women entrepreneurs to encourage them and help to develop their own businesses. ( 2.000 Euro Grant, and up to 20.000 Euro interest free credit) -“Women Entrepreneurship Support Project”

  10. LLP FOR ALL • Lifelong learning includes formal learning, informal learning, courses leading to acquire technicaltraining and skills, vocational skills acquired at work place and learning leading to acquire other skills. Lifelong learning should also give incentive to entrepreneurship
