  1. What is a carnival? A carnival involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and public street party.

  2. Luton Carnival • It is the second biggest carnival in England. • It usually takes part on the May Bank Holiday. • It is attended by over 150,000 people each year.

  4. When did Luton Carnival begin? • Luton Carnival began in 1976. • It began as a Victorian fair with a parade. • It was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Luton becoming a Borough. • Now the focus is on the carnival parade.

  5. Love Luton Festival 2012 • This year the carnival has moved to July. • It will be part of a festival to celebrate the Olympic torch coming to Luton. • The festival will last for three days. • There will be music concerts.
