Claude Monet Activity Write in your journal... 1. Using pencil and ruler, draw eight 1-inch boxes (connected). 2. Label left side “light” and right side “dark.” 3. Starting on the right, gradually shade each box darker. Light Pencil Line Gradation Bar Dark
Claude Monet Teacher Page • Points for Discussion: Discuss gradation, value, tone, and impressionism in relation to the painting. Then have students write the answers in their journals as a review. • Enrichment activities: After students create a pencil shading gradation bar, ask how the same effect could be created with paint (by adding white paint for tinting or black paint for shading). • Fine Arts Standards: 1.1 • Journal Writing Answers: Gradation bars will vary.
