Steps to Teaching Context Clues • First, the reader should recognize that the word is unknown. • Second, the reader needs to decide the meaning of the word instead of skipping over the word. • Third, the reader should look at the word and break it into known parts.
Steps to Teaching Context Clues • Fourth, the reader will look at the passage to find information that might aid in discovering the meaning of the word. • Fifth, the reader will use context clues and background to gather the meaning of the unknown word. • Lastly, the reader will test the meaning of the word in the sentence to decide if the word makes sense.
