CPA Continuous Testing Overview The most respected and recognized accountant exam, Certified Public Accountant, or also known as CPA has now released the continuous testing window. Before we get into what CPA Continuous Testing is all about, let’s have a quick background check. The CPA exam is administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), which is the world’s largest accounting body. CPA Professionals are globally recognized and accredited accountants and receive plenty of career opportunities from top-level management companies. To become a CPA Professional, students must qualify for CPA Exams. CPA USA Exam is divided into four different levels of the exam that is conducted at certain exam windows each year by Prometric exam centers all over the world. This is comparatively a tough exam to qualify but, with the latest update, things have gotten a bit stress-free. On March 31st, 2020, NASBA, AICPA, and Prometric Testing Centre announced that a new testing model called the “continuous testing” for
CPA exam candidates. The new model made its appearance on July 1, 2020, and has positively changed a lot of CPA procedures since its arrival. What is CPA Continuous Testing? CPA Continuous Testing now allows CPA aspirants to take the CPA USA exams all year round, instead of the year exam windows. This model has replaced the previously existing model of the CPA exam and now offers no restrictions on the exam schedule. This change was due to consistent requests from CPA candidates across the world to replace the existing model with Continuous testing. The news was received well by many students as it helped bridge the gap in testing due to the corona pandemic. Earlier, students had to wait until next year re-attempt their failed exams which would cause a loss in their time, efforts and made it difficult to retain their knowledge too. But, with the CPA Continuous Testing model, students can re-take their CPA exams without having to wait long and after getting their scores. The continuous testing model has opened up more than 75 additional testing dates throughout the year. This model has proved to be a lot more advantageous compared to the out-dated model of scheduling exams months ahead. Let’s take a look at why? 1.Higher flexibility- CPA Continuous Testing offers CPA candidates a flexible approach in attending their exams and re-taking the exams that they failed. The testing model also allows students to attempt their CPA exams as per their schedule and convenience and reduces the pressure of scheduling months ahead and waiting around. 2. Higher frequency- The number and the frequency of the CPA exams will increase. This is due to the elimination of quarterly exam windows and all- around year testing because of which students will be able to attend exams at their convenience and thus, the CPA exams will become much smoother.
3. No waiting for re-takes- Earlier students had to wait to re-take their failed attempts. This would cause them to forget their already revised syllabus and put in extra hard work and effort. But with the continuous testing, students can re-take their exam based on their scores and complete their CPA exams without wasting time. They can re-schedule their exam within a week and brush up on their knowledge and perform better. 4. No Scheduling Restrictions- As mentioned before, CPA Continuous testing offers all-year testing for students across the globe in several Prometric centers. This has opened to better testing schedules and stress- free CPA exam experience. Students can take their time and prepare instead and attend exams whenever they find it possible, without any restrictions or any stress. 5. Clear CPA Faster- Another added advantage of this testing window is the possibility of the CPA candidates clearing all their four levels within a short period of time compared to how it was prolonged previously. This would lead to faster CPA qualification which is a huge relief for many students. However, some things remain the same after this change. Those are: ● The CPA syllabus – the syllabus of CPA will remain unchanged until any updates. Students must be proficient in accounting, auditing, federal taxes, and so on. ● The CPA Exam Pattern- The CPA Exams will be conducted at four levels. The exam pattern shall consist of MCQs and task-based simulations along with written based communication. ● CPA Passing Score- CPA qualifying criteria, and scores will remain unchanged. Each exam shall require a minimum of 75% in order to qualify. ● The 18-month rolling window – This means with the first exam you pass; you will have a time period of 18 months to qualify for the rest of the CPA exams.
