  2. BAS-IT • Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology (BAS-IT) • Launched Fall 2010 at UHCL. • Specifically designed for Associate Degree holders and other students from community colleges. • Prepared students for tracks in the large IT market.

UHCL BAS-IT Program • Program Objectives: • To advance the career of professionals holding an associates degree in information technology or a related field. • To help information technology professionals learn about latest developments in their field. • To address the shortage of information technology workers in the UHCL service area.

  14. BAS-IT Design • Balance between theory and practices. • For both AAS degree holders and other students from community colleges. • Less mathematics and theory in computing than CS or CIS. • More hands-on courses related to IT. • Multi-disciplinary.

  15. BAS-IT Lower Level Requirements • Texas Core Requirements: 42 credits • Statistics: 3 credits • Lower Level Electives: 15 credits

  18. BAS-IT Upper Level Requirements (39 hours) • Core required courses in Management and Communications: • MGMT 3031Management Theory and Practice • WRIT 3135 Technical Writing

  19. BAS-IT Upper Level Requirements (39 hours) • Core required courses in computer science • CSCI 3134 Software Development with Java • CSCI 3033 Concepts of Data Structures

  20. Other Upper Level Requirements (21 credits) • Approved designated electives: 12 hours. • Sub-plans: 9 hours • Web Design and Development • IT Management and Administration

AAS Degree holders • Courses taken in AAS degrees: • Can be used to satisfy lower level electives. • Some can be used to be transferred to satisfy selected upper level core and sub-plan requirements. • Can take selected Texas core courses at UHCL to fulfill some or all of the 12 approved designated electives.

  22. Non AAS Degree Holders • Should take Texas core requirements at community colleges. • Lower level courses can be used to satisfy BAS-IT lower level electives. • Some courses may be transferrable to satisfy
