  2. Early life • Born November 7,1867 in Warsaw, Poland. • she was the youngest of 5 children • They were very poor

  3. Education • graduated when she was 15 • 1891 moved to Paris, France and studied science • 1893 earned degree in physics • 1894 earned degree in mathematics

  4. Accomplishments • One of the worlds most famous physicists • She earned her doctorate at Sorbonne • Discovered the elements called radium and polonium (1898) • was the first woman professor in France • In 1903 won the Nobel Prize for physics • 1911-received a second Nobel Prize in chemistry

  5. Later Life • Married Pierre Curie on July 26, 1895 • Exposure to radioactivity made her very ill • She died on July 4, 1934,at the age of 66, of leukemia

  6. Fun facts • She was the first woman to win two Nobel Prizes • She was the first woman to teach at the Sorbonne in Paris • Named the element polonium after Poland
