The Mesozoic Era The Age of the Dinosaurs
The Triassic Period • This is the first Period in the Mesozoic Era. • This is a geological period that extended from about 250 to 200 Mya. • The end and the beginning of this period are marked by major extinction events. • Both marine and continental life show an adaptive radiation. • Reptiles were really successful during this time.
The Jurassic Period • This is the second Period in the Mesozoic Era. • In the beginning of this periodthe continents were still together forming Pangaea but they were starting to drift apart. • The minor extinction at the end of the Triassic Period made dinosaurs abundant during this time. • The climate here was very hot and dry which made new groups of dinosaurs appear.
The Cretaceous Period • Although dinosaurs ruled all through the Cretaceous Period the dominant dinosaurs changed and many new ones evolved. • Frogs, turtles, salamanders, snakes and crocodiles were also present during this time. • But the only mammals that existed here were shrew like mammals. • But all this life was lost when a meteor crashed to Earth killing all dinosaurs. • The land, skies and seas would never be the same after the Mesozoic Era ended.
