From the Cross to Pentecost. Where is Jesus and what is He doing?.
E N D
Acts 1 (NIV)In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
1. He is in Heaven Preparing A Place. • 2. He is in Hearts Preserving Peace. • 3. He is Here Pleading for Penitence. “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
1. He is In Heaven Preparing A Place (John14:1-6) “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
It’s a personal place(Vs 2 – “for you”) • It’s a peaceful place(Vs 27 – “My peace I give to you”) • It’s a permanent place. (Vs 16 – “He is with you forever”) “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
2. He is In Hearts Preserving Peace (John 14:16-17, 26-27) • “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” • “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
Peace in the midst of storms (Disciples on boat). • Peace in the midst of sickness (Woman with issue of blood). • Peace in the midst of separation (Widow of Nain) • Peace regardless of the situation.14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
3. He is in Here Pleading for Penitence • Penitence = “Regret for one’s wrong doing or sinning” “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
He is here: • Calling Sinners to Repentance (“If you confess your sin…) • Calling Saints to Return (“Prodigal Son”) • Challenging Saints to Respond (Isaiah 6:8 – “Here am I send me”) “Where is Jesus and what is He doing?”
