Make Their Education Interesting By: Brittany Thomas brittany.thomas@smail.astate.edu
Why is this Important? • It increases their understanding • Makes education more appealing • Instruction through educational games/apps • Stack the States • Reader Rabbit • Keeps them interested • Better experience for everyone • They remember it better
Characteristics of an Interesting Education • Fun • Fast-paced • Positive • Challenging without boring them • Can be competitive • Enthusiastic Teachers • Consistency without Routines • Consistent through instruction, but routines should change slightly to decrease boredom
How can we do this? • Songs • Dances • Educational Games • Transform Lessons into Games • Add elements of their interest to the curriculum • Boys tend to like trucks; include trucks in the curriculum • Girls tend to like dolls; include dolls in the curriculum
Continued… • Integrate friendly competitions • Awards Prizes • Boys vs. Girls • Apps • ABC Touch • Morning Routines • Software • Where Are We? • Pinocchio • Educational Movies or Shows
While making it fun, we need to… • Ensure that learning is taking place • Everyone is participating • Everyone is given the chance to participate • The curriculum is educational and interesting • This form of learning is working for everyone
Make it Interesting: Lesson: • Learning Alphabet • Photosynthesis in Science • Vocabulary Words • Pirates looking for alphabet treasure • Put a plant in the classroom; allow them to feed it • Allow students to race by hitting a bell to tell the definition of a word
It must be important if these people said… “Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”-- Plato “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.”-- Aristotle
Let’s Make Learning Fun! “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”-- William Arthur Ward • Get involved! Students look up to teachers as role models; we can have fun and give them an appropriate education.
