  2. Qu’est-ce que c’est Prof??? • The subjonctif is a MOOD which describes things in the following categories: • Desire • Necessity • Impersonal Expressions • Emotion • Doubt • Possibility • Conjunctions • Indefinite Expressions

  3. Then what’s the indicative? • ANYTHING THAT IS NOT SUBJUNCTIVE OR CONDITIONNEL! • Some examples include: • Present • Imparfait • Passé Composé • Futur Simple • Vous comprenez????

  4. Desire Je désire que tout le monde prenne le Français!

  5. Necessity Il est nécessaire que tout le monde parle Français!

  6. Impersonal Expressions Il est obligatoire que tout le monde écoute le Professeur!

  7. Emotion Je détesteque les vaches ne parlent pas Français!

  8. Doubt Pensez-vous que tout le monde ait besoin du Français? Maisoui!

  9. Possibility Il se peutque tout le monde réussise le Français!

  10. Conjunctions Mangeons, avant que je ne meure!

  11. Indefinite Expressions Tu dois me respecter, qui que tu sois!

  12. Un petit détail… • One may NOT use the same subject for the subjunctive expression as for the subjunctive verb in expessions of emotion • Ex: J’ai peur que vous soyez mon frère • BUT • J’ai peur de parler Français

Cont’ • One may NOT use the same subject for the subjunctive expression as for the subjunctive verb in expressions other than emotion either. • The difference: DE • Je suiscontentede manger ma pizza. • Je voudraisaller au cinéma. THE EXCEPTION: Impersonal expressions - ex: ilfautqu’il me parle
