  2. Why did this Innovation come about • This innovation came about because the food was going bad and glass would break. • With this invention airtight containers reduced spillage as well. • This also gave women independence and work with the Tupperware parties.

Was made on accident or on purpose! • On purpose looking for a solution for food. • Using inflexible pieces of polyethylene given to him by DuPont, he molded it to create lightweight, non-breakable containers, cups, bowls, plates, and even gas masks that were used in World War II. • He later designed liquid-proof, airtight lids by imitating the lid of a paint can to seal food.

  4. Earl Silas Tupper • Inventor of Tupperware in 1946. • Born July 27, 1907 in Berlin, New Hampshire. • Went to Bryant then Stratton College. • Studied Biochemistry. • Worked at DuPont Chemical Company. • Died October 25, 1983 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Tupperware over time… • Tupperware sold through Tupperware parties. • Plastic items were pastel and later dark yellows, oranges, green and brown. • The logo changed. • Tupperware can be bought at malls and stores. There are still Tupperware parties. • Plastic items are now more vibrant colors and have a different design. The Company made innovations, because Tupperware was sold in 1958 to the company Rexall.

  7. The Company - Tupperware • Economic Impact: After Tupperware came about different companies also came about with plastic containers. This was helpful because now you were able to store food longer, which meant you didn’t have to buy food that often this was less money to use which was better. • Produce a year: It is sold in over 100 countries. 18 million Tupperware parties are made a year. • How many people involved: There are 13,500 employees. 1.9 million consultants.

The Company - Tupperware • Materials used: • These are different types of plastics that are used • PETE: Polyethylene terephthalate ethylene • HDPE: High-density polyethylene. • PVC or V: Polyvinyl chloride. • LDPE: Low density polyethylene. • PS: Polystyrene. • Other: Other plastics, like acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, acrylic, polycarbonate, polylactic acid, nylon and fiberglass.   9. Environmental Impact!! • I think it is good for the environment because you don’t waste so much plastic, with this you can reuse over and over. They are intended to last at least 10 years. • Some of the materials depending on the container are recyclable. • Food is wasted less because now you can store it longer and it doesn’t rot that fast like before. • Less trash is made because for example in a picnic you take the food in Tupperware, so when it is time to pick up there is no trash left behind.
