Pride Period (only on Mondays) • The purpose of this period is to address issues/concerns concerning school. • Last year we discussed “Bullying” primarily. • The design of the class is to make connections with students and teachers. • These people are a support for the school year. • The focus of Canfield is learning. • We will try to address any issues that hinder or interfere with that goal.
Grading Policy • All grades align with content/curriculum • Clear learning targets before testing • Late assignments are given a zero until made up • Tests may be made up (same material, different test) • Students may be required to demonstrate they are prepared for the make up test • Group work is graded individually
Greeting at the Door • I care about all of my students • I love teaching 6th grade • Every student has vast potential • I would love to spend 5 minutes with each of you. • 5 x 30 = 150 minutes (not possible) • A high 5, knuckle 5, handshake etc. means I care about you and that you are welcome in my classroom • I want you to be moving toward all you can achieve
Trail Creek • October 21-25Monday-Wednesday-Friday • Pickens, Dahlgren, Whiteside, Spinazza, Hinz(M-W) • Brown, Fassler, Leppert, Roth, Wilson, Robitaille(W-F) • Two nights, three days • Environmental studies, cooperative activities, night games, campfires, fun • Return @2:00 p.m.(Wed. or Fri.) no bus-due to gear • Clothing, packing list, dress code • Highlight of the year • Great experience, bonding experience, etc. • More information will be forthcoming (Sept.11) • $75 (pay online, tonight in office, week prior to departure)

Exploratory • A variety of classes • 3 weeks long • Taught mostly by 7th and 8th grade teachers • Introduce students to a wide range of interests • Subjects are: PEx2, keyboarding, counseling, technology, art, Spanish and Digital Citizenship

Refocus • School wide discipline policy • Warning/reminder • Sent to another teacher • Fill out refocus form • Recorded by teacher • Most students will receive these • Conference with principal for more than 3 • Possible Isolation time • Possible further consequences depending on severity
Homework • Monday through Thursday • Projects/tests • Agenda check daily • Grades by total points • Homework House-days and times? • Begins: Sept. 27? • Mon-Th 2:40-3:45pm • Tu-Fr 7:00-7:40am Late work • Earns a zero which may be made up for credit • Excused absences = 2 days for each day sick
Tardy Policy • 3 tardies per semester are allowed • 4th tardy teacher calls or emails home • Any tardy after that goes to the office • Absences are handled through the office with a note from parents/guardians • On time means seated at desk with all necessary books and materials
Conferences • One Student Led Conferences • All parents and students are encouraged to attend • Two general conferences • These are at the discretion of teachers or parents • Check agendas for these dates • You will be contacted for attendance
School wide Expectations • Before school, stay outside in the gym or cafeteria • Late starts on Monday • Campus is open @8:40 • Tues. –Friday • Campus is open @7:30 • Cell phones before and after school only • Dress modestly • Textbooks are recommended to be covered (saves $) • Supply list in the office • Mechanical pencils • Fine tip markers • Homework House • M-Th; T-Fr. • Check Family Access regularly • Refer to Agenda
Collaboration • Teacher time for higher achievement • Teachers collaborate early Monday morning • Monday mornings late start 9:10 am • Tuesday through Friday 7:55 am
