CISPR/TC77 Joint Task Force Activity UpdateACEC meeting in Paris, June 2006 Prepared by Donald N. Heirman Chairman CISPR Subcommittee A
Topics Covered • Joint task groups with TC 77 (SC 77B) • Publication of JTF results • Summary
CISPR / TC 77 Projects 1 • Joint task force (JTF) experts from both committees participate (CISPR SC A and SC 77B) • New emission and immunity measurement standards • Used for product compliance • Extending test capability for new product technology
CISPR / TC 77 Projects 2 • TEM Waveguides (Published as 61000-4-20) • Used for emission and immunity testing • Presently applicable for “small EUTs” • An EUT is defined as a small EUT if the largest dimension of the case is smaller than one wavelength at the highest test frequency (for example, at 1 GHz λ = 300 mm), and if no cables are connected to the EUT. All other EUTs are defined as large EUTs.

CISPR / TC 77 Projects 4 • TEM Waveguides (Published as 61000-4-20) • Recent meetings: • University of York, February 2006 • IEEE EMC Symposium, Portland, Aug. 2006 • Siemens, Erlangen, Feb. 2007 • IEEE EMC Symposium, Honolulu, 8 Jul. 2007 • Next: Nottingham, 29/30 Nov. 2007 • Conveners: Andy Marvin (U of York) and Angela Nothofer (U of Nottingham)
CISPR / TC 77 Projects 5 • TEM Waveguides (Published as 61000-4-20) • Technical Matters: • Editorial changes undertaken including minor technical issues resolved, Edition 1.1 recently published • Work proceeding according to revised timetable
CISPR / TC 77 Projects 6 • Reverberation Chamber testing (Published as 61000-4-21) • Used for emission and immunity testing • Accommodates large products • Measures emission power (which can be converted into field strength limits via an algorithm) • CIS/A/497/DC (2004) sent to NCs asking inputs on future maintenance activities including addressing commercial as well as military application • Results in CIS/A/540/INF varied • Questionnaire issued on need for maintenance (77B/505/Q and CIS/A/656/Q—both in 2006)
CISPR / TC 77 Projects 7 Example of reverberation test setup
CISPR / JTF Projects 8 • Testing in fully absorber-lined room (FAR) • First step applies to radiated emission measurements • Published in Pub 16-2-3, Clause 7.2.9.2 • New work item proposal (CIS/A/505/NP) presented to address emissions and immunity for FAR in a single document with aim to reduce and simplify procedures currently in multiple documents (CIS/A/537/RVN) • To be published as 61000-4-22 • Draft CD to be finalized at 7-10 June 2006 JTF meeting in Erlangen, Germany with distribution to National Committees for comment in Sept.
CISPR / JTF Projects 9 Example of FAR test setup
CISPR / JTF Projects 10 • Uniform Test Arrangements • Radiated emissions (30 MHz to 1 GHz) and immunity (80 MHz to 1 GHz) test method with common test set-up in semi-anechoic chamber • Work progressing on scope and planning • CIS/A/590/CDV circulated 6 May ’05 with comments and vote in CIS/A/630/RVC • CDV approved (89% P-members in favour) • CIS/A/657/FDIS circulated 31st March ’06 with closing date for vote on 2nd June ‘06
CISPR / JTF Projects 11 Example of uniform test arrangements
Other JTF related Information 12 • CIS/A/486/INF identifies JTF conveners and co-conveners as well as membership in present four task groups • Membership in CIS/A/561/INF • CIS/A/481/INF provides JTF guidelines to be used by CISPR/A and SC77B and conveners of JTFs for publishing documents within the established timelines of the IEC • Additions planned based on practical work needs
Summary • Providing new basic standards to CISPR (and other) product committees to select in determining conformity to limits • Providing additional test methods to use by TC77 in immunity work • Projects beyond first two publications well underway • CISPR/TC77 management continuously monitoring activity to ensure that progress continues and difficulties resolved
