  2. CTN’s Mission To support, strengthen and enrich community in greater Portland, Maine and to assist its citizens and institutions in realizing their greatest potential through public access to electronic communications media.

CTN’s History • 1986 – Founded by USM, the City of Portland & Maine Med • 1998 – Included in City Budget to afford rent at 100 Oak Street • 2000 – Business loan to purchase digital production equipment to sell media production services • 2005 – Relocates to Congress Street • 2006 – Board and staff establish 5-year strategic plan that includes less dependence on City funds by developing other sources of revenue • 2008 – First major cut in City funding • 2010 – Awarded grant to develop CTN Media Services

  5. CTN’s RevenueFY11 = $294,000

  6. Issues • Consumers of CTN Media Services are pleased with the quality of service • Cost of CTN Media Services is much lower than other commercial providers • Businesses that use CTN Media Servies to produce local programming are pleased with the exposure • Viewership at a given time varies from 300+ to 3,000+, depending on what’s showing • Local marketing firms confirm that local nonprofits and small businesses cannot afford most video production services

  7. What we’ve Tried 1 – Advertising on our station 2 – Weekly display ads in the Portland Daily Sun • 3 – Business Network International • 4 – CTN Media Services page on our website with • prominent link on homepage • 5 – Constant Contact to direct people to our page

  8. In the works 1 – Marketing committee developing marketing plan with USM Director ofMarketing 2 – Separate website for CTN Media Services • 3 – Contract with commission based sales person • 4 – Greater presence in other media • 5 – New marketing material and demo reel
