  2. Is racism a problem in the United States? ¿Es racismo un problema en Los Estados Unidos?

  3. Students will watch the following video about an ABC special designed to confront racism. Following the video students will be asked to respond in a class discussion to the following questions: Confronting Racism How did the video make you feel? What do you think about the final results and numbers of how many people stood up for the victims? Do you feel racism is a problem in America? Does anyone have any first hand experiences with racism (as a victim or a witness)? What can we do to stand up to racism?

Why do we celebrate diversity?¿Por qué celebramos la diversidad? • To honor people that have worked to make our nation what it is today • To retell American history without excluding minority groups • To allow the American Dream to be tangible for every American • To inspire people of diverse backgrounds • To show our appreciation and respect for OUR Heritage • To live up to our claim as the “Land of Opportunity” • To know the truth • To end ignorance and racism • To foster multicultural awareness and unity What does it mean to be Hispanic in America?

Michael Masters Poem "Being Latino" Respond to the following questions in your journal for homework: • Why do you think Michael wrote this poem and what he was trying to teach his brother? • Why is it important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and multicultural diversity in our communities, schools, and our nation?
