  2. LessonObjectives • I can find factors of a number. • I can write number sentences for rectangular arrays. • I can use the Commutative Property of Multiplication (turn-around rule) for multiplication.

  3. Essential Question • How can I compare the size of a product to the size of one factor using the other factor without using multiplication?

  4. Mental Math (5 minutes)

  5. Math Message Arrange your 18 counters into as many different rectangular arrays as you can. Then choose and draw one of the arrays in your Work Journal.

  7. ReviewingArrays • Elements of a rectangular array: • Each row has the same number of objects • Each column also has the same number of objects. • Each array has a rectangular shape. How many rows and columns are in each example above?

  8. Reviewing Arrays (cont.)(15 minutes) • With your table complete the following: • read page 10 of your Student Reference Book • Choose one of the Check Your Understanding Problems to complete in your Work Journal. • Draw a rectangular array from one of the factor pairs from the problem you completed, and write a number model to represent the array.

  9. Finding All Possible Rectangular Arrays for a Number • With your assigned partner, complete Student Journal Page 5. • You will have 15 minutes to work on this assignment, when you hear the bell ring, this is your signal to return to your seat at level 0. Be ready to share your answers! 

  10. Recognizing Fact Families • With your assigned partner please complete Student Journal Pages 6 and 7. • You will have 15 minutes to complete this task.

  11. Math Boxes • Please work on Math Boxes 1.2 on Student Journal Page 8 independently. • If you finish early, you may work on your Study Link 1.2 homework assignment.
