In the Book QAR’s • Right There The answer is in the text and easy to find. • Think and Search The answer is in the text, but you need to put different pieces of information together to find the answer.
In My Head QAR’s • Author and You • The answer is not directly in the text. You what you already know and what the author tells you to determine the answer. • On My Own • The answer is not in the text. You may not even need to read the text to determine the answer.
Instructional Suggestion Literacy Workstation • Sort the questions of the SOL Released Tests by the four question types • Different way for the students to interact with the released test • Encourages reading and rereading of the passages. • Students must think critically about the question not just about the answer.
