FILE FORMATS – quick review • .jpg is appropriate for photographs for the Web • .gif is appropriate for web images with solid colors (e.g., cartoons) • .png is appropriate for either of the above (photos or solid-colored images for Web)—plus creates transparency. The only downside is it creates a somewhat larger file size. • .tif is a huge, high-quality file only appropriate for print (too large for Web). • .pdf provides an electronic image of a document that looks printed (the end user does not have to have the fonts or linked files).
