The Problem • The boy’s father was arrested and was put in jail for stealing a pig to feed his • family. • When the sheriff was driving away Sounder chased him and the sheriff shot Sounder in the ear and Sounder ran under their porch. • The boy couldn’t get the dog from underneath the porch.

Solution • The boy’s father got out of jail because there was a dynamite explosion in a • mine that his father was working in for his punishment of stealing the pig. • He came back injured but he lived. • The boy found Sounder under the porch and his ear was missing, Sounder later died in the book and the boy’s father died a bit later.
About the Author • William H. Armstrong was born on September • 14th 1911 in Lexington, Virginia. • He was the third child in his family. His parents • Were Howard and Ida Armstrong. He grew up on • Farm near Lexington, Virginia. He went to college • To be a history teacher. He taught for 55 years • And wrote many books. He died in his home in 1999 at the age of 87.
