  3. Subtraction • subtraction = difference • numbers with two digits or more: • start with the ones column • if the top number is less than the bottom number, “borrow” from the digit to the left of it

  4. Example 3.1 • subtract: 432 - 257

  5. Patterns • “find the missing digits” • use the opposite operation to figure this out

  6. Example 3.2 • Find the missing digits: 472 + AKY = 628

  7. Example 3.3 • Find the missing digits: MNP + 257 = 493

  8. Example 3.4 • Find the missing digits: 526 – XYZ = 329

  9. Example 3.5 • Find the missing digits: XMP – 423 = 287
