Nuclear Education in Egypt Prof. Dr. Mohamed ElSayed Soliman Nagy Department of Nuclear and Radiation Engineering Alexandria University
The Department of Nuclear and Radiation Engineering • The Department of Nuclear Engineering was established in 1963 to support the nuclear program in Egypt. • The courses in the department were tailored towards creating an engineer with comprehensive understanding of the nuclear power plants.
In 2003, the department's name was changed to the Department of Nuclear and Radiation Engineering in order to accommodate the need for engineers who can handle radiation sources and applications in commercial/industrial/medical fields.
Degrees Granted by the Department • the Department of Nuclear and Radiation Engineering has granted • over 900 B.Sc. degrees • more than 130 M.S. • More than 45 Ph.D. degrees • Diploma of Nuclear Power Stations and their Safety • Diploma of Radiation and Environment
Current Status of the Department • We have a current student enrollment of about 100 undergraduates and 40 graduates. • The department's strengths include faculty staff with diverse research experiences and close ties with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) and the Nuclear Power Plant Authority (NPPA).
