Living In Joy! • How do we live a joy-filled life in trying circumstances? • Heb.10:32-36 • They suffered public ridicule, physical beating, imprisonment and confiscation of goods. • They remained faithful in suffering and joyfully accepted confiscation of goods • How? Their focus was on the eternal things to come! 34b • Principle #1 • Live in Light of Eternity, not the here and now!
What Are You Looking At? • Principle #2 – Faith is seeing the PRESENCE, POWER and PROMISES of God as being more REAL than the circumstances around me! 11:1 • 3- Believing the world was created from nothing at God’s command • 4 – Able brought a blood offering, seeing the Holy Presence of God, and his own sin • 5- Enoch was not a people pleaser • 7 - Noah saw the flood – Promise and Power
What Are You Looking At? • 8-12 Abraham – the promise of nationhood • 10- He looked for a city whose maker was God • The challenge of old age infertility • 13- They were living in light of the promise, not the circumstances around them • Abe, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph all made decisions based on the promises of God
What Are You Looking At? • 24-28 Moses chose suffering over riches because he was looking ahead 26, persevered because he saw the invisible presence of God 27, he believed the promise kept passover 28 • What was the faith of the Red Sea? • What was the faith of Rahab? • What was the motivation for those mention in 32-35? • What about those of 36-38?
Living Free! • How do we live free? • Realize it is possible to live in freedom. 1a • Get rid of the sin holding you back. 1b • Habit, relationship, thought pattern • Confession breaks the power of sin • Recognize it is going to take some work 1c • Be conscious of what you are focusing on 2a • Consciously focus on the PRESENCE, POWER and PROMISES of GOD. 2b • Persevere, don’t grow weary, don’t lose heart 3
