Providence ETYMOLOGY • Comes from the Latin providentia • Closely related to the word “provide” which come from the latinprovidere • Pro = before • Videre = to see • To see before • The word “provide” therefore exresses forethought, which rests upon foresight, conveying the idea of providential care. • The word “providence” occurs only once in our English New Testaments, and applies to a man, not to God (Acts 24:2). Providence presupposes, the divine creation of the universe and God’s government in and over that which He created. God has created man with free will and he will not alter that in any way.
