  2. A PRE-PBIS History @ BBES 2001-2003: Non-Standard recording of referrals Inconsistent Consequences Program NOT driven by data 2003-2004 Total Referrals: 304 (40% physical agg.) 14 Suspensions Houston, we have a problem Administration Change, Staff Turnover, Kid Matriculation

  3. PBIS Year One(2004-05) • Data • Kids • Staff • Needs • So we asked some questions…..

  4. Hook, Line and Sinker • Who are our kids? • What are the behaviors? • When did they occur? • How were they dealt with? So, what did we notice?

  5. Kids in the Zone… • Educationally • Disorganized • Failure to complete assignments • Can’t get started Socially Physically Aggressive Like to entertain Can’t Self-Regulate “Unmotivated and Disruptive”

  6. So what we discovered was…. You gotta reach ‘em to teach ‘em.

  10. PBIS and Our Students • 96% of BBES Students are in the Green Zone. • Minor Referrals • Behaviors Exhibited (Minor rule violations) • Structure and Relationships

  11. 3% in Yellow Zone 15 students Mix of Minor/Major issues Excessive Dots and IIT Cases 1% in Red Zone 6 students 45% of total referrals (MAJOR) FBA/BIP/CAS Yellow and Red Zone(2005/06)

  12. Empowering Changes • Availability for learning (ie. Academic Success) • Independence of our Students • Positive Perceptions • Reduction in referrals for club members • Increased attendance and “on time arrivals”

  13. Our Challenge…. • Apply what you have learned today when supporting staff & students. • Effectively use data to facilitate discussions to meet student need. • School wide involvement means EVERYONE.
