LED Solder Press Status Report Presentation One • By Ryan Bigl & • Kyle Levesque
Problem statement Design an automated miniature solder press that is able to… • Solder pre-glued surface mount LED emitters to a metallic circuit board. • Test the LED after completion • Be faster and more efficient than hand assembly. • Not need human aid, after initial setup is completed.
Solutions • Build a X table with an adjustable jig for metallic circuit boards. • Make a single press/ dual soldering iron system with electronically fed solder. • Allow user to initially select predetermined board size and stores data throughout the run.
System Overview • User interface and controls • Pneumatic controlled motion • Computer controlled soldering irons and feed system • Computer recorded test system • Preprogrammed board sizing

completed Goals • Define system setup and feasibility. • Make a task list and divide up hours for project. • Meet with LedDynamics to present ideas. • Redefine project from the companies considerations and time management.
Upcoming Goals • Decide what soldering system to use through testing and research, (either liquid or solid). • Design Jig mounting setup for multiple board sizes, (Adjustable fence). • Decide on solder iron wattages and design though research and testing. • Communicate with LedDynamics about final system design and budget. • Manufacture “test” boards for soldering system.
