  2. When? • From September 2012 • Each program lasts for one semester • Semester 1 (Sep – Dec 2012) for SEF students • Semester 2 (Jan – May 2013) for SOB students

  3. Who are eligible? • All current Year 1 full-time FBE students, i.e. Year 2 in 2012-13. • Reasonable Year 1 CGPA.

  4. Why CBE? • Perspective from potential employers: • HKU FBE graduates are excellent, yet they need to know more about mainland China

  5. CBE – Key features • An add-on – on top of the usual exchange opportunity • Students to take 3 courses in a 6-week module, i.e. 6 courses (36 credits) for a 2-module semester and all courses are taught in English • 3 year-II core courses will be offered • Opportunity to take 3 electives on China economics and business • All credits earned in CBE will be counted towards graduation requirements • Earn a certificate on “China Business and Economics”

  6. CBE – greatest enrichment opportunity • Free lodging on Fudancampus/Make friends with Fudan students • Network with Shanghai-based alumni • Subsidy for travel • Short trips to nearby cities • Firm visits

  7. CBE – greatest enrichment opportunity • Study some courses with Fudan students on Fudan campus; study some other courses in the heart of Shanghai (Shanghai Study Center) • Get to know Shanghai and surrounding Yangtz River Delta

CBE – HKU core courses • Select up to 50 SOB students to study in the program in Spring 2013 • 3 core HKU courses: • Intermediate Accounting II • Management Accounting II • Quantitative Analysis for Business Decisions • 3 China electives • Select up to 50 SEF students to study in the program in Fall 2012 • 3 core HKU courses: • Introductory Econometrics • Microeconomic Theory • Macroeconomic Theory • 3 China electives

CBE - 3 China Electives • Chinese economy • China business environment • Study on China’s Competitiveness • A select of five industries and some key firms in Shanghai and neighboring cities • Manufacturing industry (for example, auto, steel, and textile); Entertainment (old such as theatre; new such as online game); Hotel and exhibition industry; accounting/ financial service industry; new high-tech industry • Guest lectures, firm visits, and in-depth analysis

  10. How to apply? • Complete an on-line application - include a one-page statement • Application from May 21 – June 1, 2012 • Application deadline: 5:00 p.m., June 1, 2012

  11. Selection Criteria • Reasonable Year 1 CGPA • Extra-curricular activities • A one-page statement

  12. When will results be known? • Around the end of June 2012 • Acceptance by early July 2012 • Refundable deposit of HK$3,000 at the time of acceptance
