Synopsis This book is continued from Teri Terry’s 1st book in the series called Slated. Fractured is all about Kyla finding who she really is after she got slated. She finds her whole other life in crazy nightmares that made her nearly die being so low on her levo (a watch that stops violence). Will Kyla find out all about the life she had before she was slated (completely had her memory wiped)? To find out read the book!!!
Teaching Ideas • A letter from Kyla to the Ben who doesn’t know her any more • A scene from the book acted out in drama • In pairs write questions to Teri Terry and swap with another group and try to answer the questions • Hot seat someone pretend to be Teri Terry and the rest of the class ask her questions and she has to try to answer them (this lesson would have to be planned and the lesson before may have to be a research lesson about Teri Terry. The purpose would be to ask her why she wrote so many sequels.
Cross-curricular themes • This book has got a bit of biology because the leader of free UK (Anti government terrorists) pretends to be a scientist so he get into Kyla's memories and remind her who she was before. • Also there is a bit of a physical skill like target shooting (but with knives not bow and arrow) • History because sometimes when Kyla gets flashbacks she gets them about the past.
Heath warnings Reading this to your class is your own choice but it has mild swearing and you will have to read this book yourself before you consider it as a class reader. And the term blood is used a lot so if you don’t really like the term blood I wouldn’t recommend this book to you.
Task for creative writing You are a reporter for the local newspaper. It is 2060 and slating is a normal thing. A lorder secret agent wants to know what you think about slating. The lorders are thinking of getting rid of slating altogether. Your opinion will be all over the world so think carefully about your decision. You shall have to read the book to do this task.
Thank you for watching my presentation I really appreciate it.
