Project Objective The wind generated electricity produced by the Project is to displace the grid electricity, thus, contributing to GHG reductions of 155,313tCO2e (tones of carbon dioxide equivalent) per year for the duration of the project activity. In the initial 7-year crediting period, the Project is expected to reduce approximately 1.087191 million tCO2e, generating the equivalent amount of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).
Baseline Methodology & Additionality • Approved consolidated baseline methodology ACM0002 “Consolidated baseline methodology for grid connected electricity generation from renewable resources” • Additionality: • “Draft consolidated tools for demonstration of Additionality” • (EB 15 (1 - 3 Sept. 2004)
Additionality • The Project faces significant barriers in its implementation, due to: • The high investment cost of wind power plants relative to conventional power plants • Higher Levelized cost of produced kWh compared to one of thermal power plant. • Lack of incentives to promote renewable energy. • The grid-connected wind power plant will enable reducing grid-connected thermal power plants electricity generation, thus, reducing fuel consumption hence, contributing to CO2 emissions abatement
Project Boundary and Baseline Emission Factor (1/2) • The Baseline Is the electricity that would have been, otherwise, generated by operation of grid - connected thermal power plants. • Thermal power stations connected to the grid; mainly:- • - Combined Cycle • - Steam • Excluding low cost must run hydro • - Less than 20% in the last most recent years. • - Driven by irrigation needs rather than electricity needs.
Project Boundary and Baseline Emission Factor (2/2) • Emission factor selected is that of the grid - connected thermal plants as net imports exceed 20% of the project electricity system. • The project will affect both Operating Margin, and Build Margin • Simple OM has been slected in view of above
The Project and Emission Factors • Accountability Period: 3 x 7 years • Estimated Avoidance of Emissions: 3,261,573 Tons CO2 • Total (CERs) per year: 155,313 Tons CO2 • Total emission reduction for the first period: • Period of 7 years : 1,087,191 tCO2
