TEXT: Titus 2:11-15 God’s grace has as its purpose salvation. But the teaching of God’s Word indicates that its purpose is broader than mere salvation. It includes:
Living Sensibly (2:12) • Denying ungodliness (ungodliness is living without regard for God’s standards) • Denying worldly lusts (giving in to worldly lusts is living without regard for our own tendencies to do that which is not right) • Live with: • Common sense – based upon teaching (2Tim 3:16 “doctrine”) • Righteously – based upon application (“reproof, correction, instruction in…”) • Godliness – based upon empowering (“equipped” cf Gal 5:22ff)
II. Live with Anticipation (2:13) • Looking for Christ’s Return (1 Thess 4:16ff) • This return is imminent (Luke 12:39) • His return will be glorious, not as a Babe but in the triumph of the Resurrection and Ascension (Acts 1:11)
III. Live as Redeemed (2:14) • Because Christ gave His life for us • His purpose was to purify us • His purpose was to use us • His purpose was to enable us to live for His glory
