  1. Ilias Atwani Got the Chance to Visit Two Inuit Villages as a Reward for Winning the Art of Mining Photography Contest The Art of mining is PwC Canada’s annual photography contest that celebrates the positive impact of the Canadian mining industry at home and abroad. Winning this renowned contest was a big thing for Ilias Atwani, who is an extremely talented photographer and loves to explore different cultures from around the world. On the professional front, he is a successful mining industry professional, currently working as a Mine Operations Coordinator in the mine operations department of a senior Canadian gold mining firm. As a reward for winning The Art of Mining photography contest, Ilias Atwani got the chance to visit two Inuit villages with Noah, a local resident. Along with him, the second-place winner of the contest also got the opportunity to visit the Inuit villages. As Ilias enjoys exploring different cultures, this trip was definitely a worthwhile experience for him. It started with a snowmobile expedition followed by a traditional dinner at Noah’s place.

  2. Sharing one of his experiences that showed him the mutual aid and community synergy that exist at the heart of Inuit culture, he says that during the trip, he saw Noah’s wife with two young girls and inquired about them. He was told that the mother of one of the girls worked for his company, and that Noah’s family watched over the girl in her mother’s absence. Atwani was moved by learning about this aspect of the Inuit culture. In the past, Ilias Atwani has been a part of a recruitment campaign in the Inuit village of Kangiqsujuaq (Wakeham Bay) and is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association of Laval University and Quebec Order of Engineers. However, he had never witnessed the Inuit culture this closely, and for that, he is extremely grateful for having won The Art of mining contest that gave him the chance to explore this extraordinary culture.
