  1. How Often Should You Change Your Mattress ? When it comes to finding the right bed, mattresses can be overlooked easily: a good mattress goes unnoticed, while a bad mattress will keep you up all night! The quality and suitability of a mattress makes a huge difference to how soundly you sleep but they can be expensive purchases – so it's crucial you find one which delivers value for money and an excellent night's rest. If you feel your mattress is starting to get old or is no longer delivering the comfort you're used to, it's a good idea to find a new one sooner rather than later – a poor night's sleep will leave you exhausted, achy and unprepared for the day. The warning signs… Recommendations on when to replace your mattress vary from anything between 5 to10 years. While there's no solid rule of thumb on when to get a new one, over long periods mattresses deteriorate structurally, losing spring and bounce, and accumulate dust and mites – affecting allergies and contributing to health problems. A mattress' lifespan is dependent on a wide variety of factors and the best way to determine when you should change your mattress is by relying on your own judgement: Wear and tear: if there is visible damage to your mattress, chances are it's on its way out. Exposed spring coils or frayed fabric will have a knock-on effect to the integrity of the mattress. Any creaking or unevenness in the mattress surface is also a good indicator of damage.

  2. Change of job: a new job can have a significant effect on your sleeping habits. You'll need more or less sleep, depending on the changing demands on your body. Effects of a major lifestyle change are hard to predict, little things may have significant consequences – any existing problems with your mattress may be exacerbated by unpredictable habits. Moving house: travel to another environment or time zone always has an effect on sleep patterns but, in a more basic sense, physically moving a mattress can easily damage it or apply stresses which weaken it and speed up its deterioration. Your body: it's obvious that the mattress you had as a child would be unsuitable for you as an adult and your age should be a consideration in determining if and when you need a new mattress. The physical condition of your body is also important: losing or gaining weight can create a lot of discomfort – and indicate it's time to change mattresses. A good mattress saves time and money… If you are having trouble sleeping, you may not even realize that your mattress is the problem until you take the time to examine it. Although changing a mattress can involve both expense and effort, it's important to consider just how valuable a good night's rest is. Sleep problems spill over into your job and your daily routines – and the consequences can be financial and medical. When you do choose to make a change, investigate
