What is Cosplay? • Cosplay(コスプレ, kosupure), short for "costume play“, is a performance art in which costumes and accessories represent a specific character. Characters who are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan • These characters are mostly from anime, comic books, graphic novels, and video games.
When Did Cosplaying Start? • Taiwan • Beginning–1990 • Taiwan's first cosplaysstarted.But the people involved was only temporary. And the people that cosplayed at that time was too small. • Many people believe cosplay started in Japan, when it actually did not. It actually started in America. • The first cosplay was done by Forrest J Ackerman in 1939
Professional Cosplaying • In Japan, their are professional cosplayers, or cosplay models. People who are paid to dress in costumes and get their picture taken. • But they take their work very seriously, and because they are professional cosplayers, they demand $150 an hour on average. • Also, the fact that professional cosplaying does not require a degree in school or any special training makes it highly competitive.
Minor Cosplayers • Minor Cosplayers are regular people who attend annual Anime Conventions every few months, • or every year, just to show off their own costumes, take pictures and shop. • It’s all for fun, and not for competition.
What Age Is Cosplaying For? • Cosplaying is for any age, young and old. • Most Cosplayers start in their early teens • Some start when they are babies. • Their may be an age limit for some Cosplay,for some characters are more adult than others.
Anime Conventions • Anime convention is an event that focus on anime, manga and Japanese culture. • Anime conventions are multi-day events hosted at convention centers, hotels or college campuses. • They feature a wide variety of activities. • Anime conventions are also used in which studios, distributors, and publishers represent their anime related releases.
かぶき Bakuki • Kabuki is a cultures equivalent of high • theatre. Hundreds of years older than Broadway. • Kabuki plays featured singing ,dancing and drama which attracts a large amount of people. • Fans often shout words of encouragement to the actors.
