Maximizing the Impact of Our Research • Where do we want to be in 5-10 years? • What questions need answering to help shape an effective response to HIV?
Research played a major role in bringing gender and sexuality“to the table.”
We’ve Come A Long Way • Increasing recognition among policymakers, donors and programmers of how important it is to address gender and sexuality … • …but room for greater integration of social science insights into biological research
Network Objectives • Facilitate collaboration and information sharing among researchers, make research more efficient by eliminating duplicative efforts, and identify research priorities • Bridge the gap between researchers and programmers, policymakers & donors
Network Activities • First topics for discussion identified • Steering Committee conceptualized Network • Gender, Sexuality, and HIV Research Network launched in Mexico City • Expert input obtained on research overview on concurrent partners and HIV; recently updated • Pre-satellite support from Ford Foundation • Satellite support from IAS in Mexico City and Cape Town
Network Activities • Facilitate communication and exchange among researchers, program implementers and policy-makers • Share relevant research findings via conference sessions and consensus commentaries (editorials, public meetings)
Next Steps…. • Input from Satellite participants • Continued expansion of Network • Guidance from Steering Committee
A Request to Consider During Rest of Conference How can the Network strengthen research on gender, sexuality and HIV and contribute to a more effective response to the epidemic?
